HaVe A BeAuTiFuL LiFe : 2010

IMG_3118.JPG

My DeArEsT FrIeNdS,

This  picture was taken by me on my recent trip to India..We were travelling towards Rajasthan and in the middle of the desert we stopped for a breather..and then..sunset came along and enveloped us in this glorious hues of pink and purple..before it all fizzles away to darkness.. Just like our life..i suppose..when during our lifetime we seize each and every day to shine and at our peak, we burst into this great blinding light, shinning upon our beloveds, bringing them joy..Though one day we will be gone..we have all left our mark behind..

So, for the year of 2010, let’s shine and bring forth great joy to humanity and live everyday to the full as if its our last..

Have a Beautiful 2010, my dear friends…

together, let our beam of joy light up the darkest corner

and may we all

bask in the warmth of joy…

yours truly,

bryan.

HoMe DecOr 4 Ep 4:GaRdEn ArT:园林艺术

The Topics are getting trickier..

This time round they wanted us to bring the outdoors indoors..not just garden..but garden art..

So..how to do that? was rather flabbergasted and was simply ..or ..rather clueless..

But the bottomline is, we have to complete this irregardless of whatsoever and thus, i went ahead with my interpretation of the topic and together, we set out to create Garden Art themed home decor:)

We got a four room corridor unit which was actualy quite huge and here’s the before pictures:)

IMG_2404.JPG

IMG_2408.JPG

IMG_2403.JPG

My intention is to recreate this area into something that echoes the old world charm of colonial english garden and my inspiration is none other than those black and white houses, like the reknown raffles hotel….

IMG_2412.JPG

This time round i decided to go beyond painting, so with putty, i did the art piece with the two flowers and a bird:)The hanging display of the driftwood dotted with orchids on a swing echoes the memories of yesteryears..

IMG_2455.JPG

IMG_2417.JPG

My art installation of this gigantic fern is a hot favourite of the judges:)

IMG_2443.JPG

I especially love this modern interpretation of wrought iron chair..

IMG_2426.JPG

this vertical garden scores big time! not only is it current, but, it also covers up the glass fairly well and blockes out the blue and yellow screaming from the kitchen..and my dear friends, this is real hard work!

IMG_2450.JPG

We were all so pleased with the eventual outcome..the living area was magically transformed into a garden..with flora on swings, gazebo- like vertical garden, huge fern art installation..the black and white colours…the round day bed that went up all the way via the staircase…ooh-la-la–the votes came our way:)

I hope you enjoy strolling thru this garden..

just as much as i loved creating it….

HoMe DeCoR 4: Ep 3: ClaSsiCal ChiC 经典时尚风

This episode kick starts the more intricate and tricky topics that follows..To adorn the living living rooms with classical english pieces yet with a touch of chic, aka fashionable and trendy. But with a budget of $6000, its kind of a tricky because for this eisode, my contestant’s five room flat has got a really huge living room and i was worried that the space would be difficult to fill. After much deliberation, i decided to go with a black an white approach to today’s theme..and now, the before pictures…

IMG_2329.JPG

IMG_2328.JPG

Besides the huge space area, the store room that pops out in the middle of the living room was irking me too..

IMG_2338.JPG

Putting aside our worries, we got to work and did the transformation…

IMG_2342.JPG

behind the tv console,we diy this foam backing covered with pin stripped cloth to soften the harsh wall..

IMG_2356.JPG

On the dinning room wall, a sort of a classical chic form of “black board” was done framed with wooden trimmings which we whitewashed to contrast against the oyster grey walls..we also transformed an ordinary lampshade but cutting out the image of a chandelier out of black velvet cloth and glued it onto the shade using 3M’s spray adhesive glue..

IMG_2373.JPG

To break the long  horizontal wall, we did the classic regency stripes and also, covered the store room door with the same foam wall panellings that we did for the tv console..

IMG_2398.JPG

IMG_2345.JPG

IMG_2363.JPG

thru the mirrors hung on the wall, we transfered the furnitures onto the regency stripped walls to act also like some kind of picture..

IMG_2375.JPG

We were more then pleased with the eventual transformation..

and so were the judges

who awarded us with the nod of approval.

what fun it was.. and merry too..

and here’s to one and all,

have a blessed ChriStmAs…………

NamaSte! InDiA Once More

After spending one and a half months in India last year,me thought it would be a long while for me to revisit this wonderful country..However, fate worked its wonder and now, together with the group of folks who signed up with UOB Travels, i am now once again, right smack in the heart of Rajasthan!

In fact, on the 17th of December, i embarked on my trip to India once again, flying via Kingfisher Airlines(which is really cool) to Mumbai then to Delhi..the 18th morning saw us visiting the city hall area and also, the place the great Ghandi stayed 144 days before he was assasinated..and now, the night of the 18th, i arrived in Jodphur, whereby tomorrow we shall visit the fort whom people affectionately called it the blue city:)

I shall be back on the eve of christmas, which by then i hope i will be able to put on some wonderful pictures of this trip which my beloved G9 has captured:)

wait for me..

discover alongside me….

bryan.

p/s: Thank you all for all your encouraging words with reference to my earlier post on the second epi of Home Decor..It was very encouraging and i really appreciate the way u guys approved of our team’s hardwork..And that, my dear friends, is invaluable:)

HoMe DeCoR 4 Ep2:MoDeRn SouThEasT AsiA 现代东南亚风情

To me, southeast asia is best represented by vivid colours.. vibrant and colourful with  a strong influence of green, for we are all placed at the tropical belt..The modern aspect represented by the simple lines and also, lots of wood..in raw form, as close to nature as possible. With that in mind, we forged ahead with our vision for this episode:)

The original state of this 4 room flat is simple..clean..and..well..bit of a bland

IMG_2293.JPG

IMG_2294.JPG

IMG_2296.JPG

IMG_2303.JPG

One of the better ways a dress an empty wall is to have a painting..and thus, i drew this thai/indonesia influenced drawing in its vivid colour in simple form as oppose to traditional method. This is to highlight the theme of southeast asia with a tinge of modernism:)

IMG_2322.JPG

With this drawing, i hope to create the spiritual aspect of asia..

IMG_2314.JPG

We made this standing lamp out of a dead log which i found at the side of a street..the amount of time spent on getting rid of the rot and outer barks took ages but the end result was awesome..with a bit of ingenuity, i got the light part attached onto the log and amidst much cheer, it lit up our little world and warmed our weary hearts…

IMG_2323.JPG

Another DIY item would be this mirror, where great pains were taken to saw the discarded branches..two of this DIY items shows greatly how with a little bit of creativity and love for nature, we all can do our part for recycling :)

IMG_2318.JPG

IMG_2305.JPG

IMG_2312.JPG

IMG_2309.JPG

Sadly, victory was not ours to have…

Nevertheless, this has been one of the most rewarding days ever..with the effort of everyone, our sweat and determination transformed a dead log into a lamp that shone brightly, giving the once dead log a new lease of life..Also, parts of discarded branches lives on as the inframe decor of a mirror..

We created a new beginning..

and that’s,

all that matters:)

After a year, Home decor returns for the fourth season and this season, the two apprentices are not to be seen however, the good old loyal helpers still stuck around and provided us with all the help and laughter. kicking off into our debut  for this season, we tackled: RuStIc ConTemPoRarY

This season we start off with a 4 room flat and this is the Before Look:)

IMG_2260.JPG

IMG_2263.JPG

IMG_2265.JPG

Relatively plain, the built in wardrobe poses as a major hurdle for me, for it is anything but rustic..

IMG_2278.JPG

And with the nod of approval by the owner, i gave the old wardrobe a new layer of woodskin  and  it sure looks different:)

IMG_2277.JPG

With comtemporary sofa in white and all other furniture in raw finishes, my interpretation of the topic came through…

IMG_2290.JPG

IMG_2292.JPG

Making use of discarded wood that i fould at the side of the road, i created an artpiece with simplistic flowers on the bark, thus giving the discarded dead wood a new lease of life…

IMG_2285.JPG

IMG_2284.JPG

IMG_2286.JPG

I was really pleased with the outcome of the transformation..it allowed me to visit the topic of going green and recycling, something that is really close to my heart..

IMG_2282.JPG

and the end result was sheer pleasure, an encouraging start to the 12 episode season 4..

As this is the first episode, we did not attempt anything too major..However, in coming episodes, oh deary me, our projects just got bigger and bigger and….well, b i g g e r!

Till the next episode,

live well:)
