DMW: 缤纷广场 The Plaza
I find that the plaza of the town or city usually spells out in great detail what the town is all about..The way of life..the food..the trade ..the entertainment..All within a square compound , the identity of the town is compressed within one km sq of space that entices the visitors and educates them on the way of live there. This time round, DMW showcases three different plazas, two of which is within Europe and the other,in Asia. Though the plazas in these three countries abides the basic layout of being a plaza and fulfills all the criteria of being a plaza, they are, however, interestingly different in their own unique charming ways….
威尼斯圣马克广场 Venice San Marcos Plaza
Of all the three plazas, i have had the pleasure of visiting Venice’s San Marcos Plaza prior to DMW.. That was about three years ago, i think..and it was in early march and then the weather was still cold.It was a self drive trip and the bunch of us, nine in all, including my mum, had a fantabulous time in italy for a good fifteen days, i think.Anyway, back to Venice, this time time, it would be my second visit to this romantically beautiful city on water.
Personally, i feel that San Marcos Plaza is the heart of the city. This is the spot where international movies were made, where stars and starlets sipped champagne, have afternoon tea or simply having a cocktail while the pigeons soar up and down in frentic frenzy..
A clock tower looms high and up into the sky, the magnifique church looks down at the square with such old time grace and elegance and the hauntingly beautiful historical victorian barrocian building that frames up the rectangular square seemed all mighty and etheral..as i dug my heels into the stone walkway, the sound of my footsteps echoed through the narrow alleyways that lead into the side streets where more excitement are awaiting…

帕坦广场 Patan Plaza
At one glance, the obvious in architecture stands out brilliantly as we probe into the heart of another plaza, this time round, Patan Plaza in Nepal ..
Intricate carvings are found on the pillars of the buildings , transporting us back to times long ago..
Instead of shopping at the square, i found people watching to be of the uptmost pleasure, as it revealed the many facades of mankind..
Somehow, one of the pleasures that i had on this visit was to sit back and relax..and watch the world goes by..
Innocent children roamed the streets, the plaza became one huge playground..
Nepalese in ethnic robe brings forth a natural wave of beauty and simplicity
I like the beauty and simplicity of Patan Plaza..Here i encountered people in their simplest form..wanting not the lavish lifestyles but enjoying the simplicity of living.. The square has got a life of its own, a life so vibrant and pure..Voices drifted across the square, buddhist chantings filled the air..laughter echoes long and beyond..people strolling, people nodding off on benches..the afternoon breeze lazed across our bodies…smells of incense drifted across fleetingly…. the mind takes a rest..the body readily agreed. In unison.
马德里萨拉曼卡广场
Salamanca Plaza Mayor
Never knew of Salamanca till dmw, was even more astounded to learn that this town houses one of the top university in Europe..This, is Salamanca Plaza Mayor, Spain.
At first glance, i see a similarity between this Plaza and that of San Marcos..the rectangular square, the architecture..the outdoor cafe.. However, upon a closer look and feeling the square, i am so wrong.. First and foremost, the buildings are of different colour, the ones here are more of sand coloured while san marcos are of grey tones.Secondly, this is a complete rectangle, and the buildings are symetrical and identical..
this combination of a fritter and hot chocolate releases endorphins at an alarming rate..makes you happy at just one bite.!
one could really just stroll along the streets and shop and watch, for the pace here is really laid back..many historical buildings here to tempt your quest for knowledge and picture opportunities are aplenty..
However, when night falls, plaza mayor takes on a different form and takes your breath away..
The Plaza is where we meet
where news were exchanged
and the minds go thick..
The plaza is where we eat
where there are good food too many
and our tummy goes weak
The plaza is where we would be
when nowhere else would have us
our moods in a pit
The plaza is what we really need
where the clock keeps ticking
and our lives
forever so sweet….

喜欢你最后那首“诗”(?!),比节目旁述生动,启人深思。
感觉到你真的在那里呼吸到当地人的空气!

Thank you Bryan for sharing with us all those awesome photos taken. It is always eye-opening when we have a chance to view outside Singapore. It shows how BIG the world is to each of us when we are just living in Singapore.
Hope you have a satisfying trip as not many of us will have such opportunity. I can see that you are happier nowadays which is a good sign.
Enjoy and may you be blessed!

Hi Bryan,
Thank you for posting up the photos.
They are awesome!
I really enjoyed watching the show for it is truly inspiring. Especially for one of the episodes when simplicity can be such a luxury, it is an experience that urbanites seek in their daiy lives, but materialism has blinded us instead.
Looking forward to the next inspiring episode. Cheers!
