Home Decor 3 Ep 7 Modern Classics
This time round the family that got our team has a rather odd layout which gave us quite a bit of a headache. Nevertheless, we relocated their living room and created a new dinning area for them and this is how it went…
as you step into the flat, you see an open concept kitchen…
not too exciting as the sink area looks rather messy …
The living area felt really cramped as that was originally a study area..
We decided to go for a combination of modern furniture + English/american classic and the result is this!
Thru this diy mirror by me you could see that now the tv console is actually where the dinning table was…
And the new dinning area..
is where the old sofa used to be..we specially created a sort of a bar area at the side..
and of course, a cosy little corner to relax..
Was a rather funny filming day as we laughed over many sudden incidents revolving around Lee Teng..We were rather pleased with the overall transformation of the flat..
We lost.

on November 26th, 2007 at 10:07 pm
Hi Bryan, may i know how to join this contest ?
Hope you can reply as soon as possible, thanks
on November 26th, 2007 at 11:03 pm
Bryan, I like your design and I think the house is lovely, but there’s something very wrong here. The definition of modern classics is very different from “simply modern furniture + classic pieces of furniture”. It’s not just slightly wrong, it’s almost as if you’re
saying pineapple is pine + apple.
I think as a celebrity, when millions of viewers will seriously believe in whatever you say, pronounce, or interprete on TV or on your blog, it’s very important to get some of these fundametal concepts right.
on November 26th, 2007 at 11:34 pm
dear darren,
thank you for pointing that out. However, i guess i have not been very clear in defining the theme of the day.We were told that the theme would be a fusion of modern furnitures and some classic pieces, that’s why the episode ‘s theme is named this way. I shall delete away the line that you felt might mislead the viewers.
on November 27th, 2007 at 12:01 am
Hi Bryan
how come all these decor are on either 4 rm or 5 rm flat? doesnt show 3 rm flat? is it possible to feature on 3 rm flat?
on November 27th, 2007 at 12:21 am
hey bryan, am dead tired but thot i need to share this with u…was at a friend’s wedding tonite. the bride’s mum said “oh no, tonite got home decor how? forgot to record…” and someone suggested to stay in the bridal suite to watch home decor till the 1st march in at 8.30pm and then follow the bride up to the bridal suite (for her evening gown change) at close to 9pm to catch the result…and someone suggested airing home decor on the ballroom screen.. haha! then someone started a survey.. if u participate in home decor 3 who would u choose?…the answers..”bryan!”, “bryan wong lah”, “当然是禄江啦!”… win already wor you…
my mum told me mark won.. in a not-so-happy tone.. coz she thinks your design is better.
on November 27th, 2007 at 2:03 am
Hi Bryan,
Just wanted to say me and my family are staunch supporters of you! It’s really cool to watch you on TV coming up with amazing pieces of artwork/creativity one after another! Your thought processes never fail to leave us in awe. How did you do that?
Keep it up! Love watching you at work!
on November 27th, 2007 at 2:36 am
Hi Bryan… I’m able to watch this ep. And 1st to say, nice design and DIY again. Maybe I dun really understand the meaning of the Theme as I’m not a professional of the home design. But in overall, I find your design as it’s very comfortable when u see the home. Maybe something I like abt DIY is like in the show, if you all lost, you are still able to leave some DIY stuff for the contestants which I think they can still leave it as a memory that they have with you. I will think that way. I think so do the contestants.
on November 27th, 2007 at 7:39 am

Hope you can reply me.Thanks.
Wish you all the best & win the rest of the episodes.

Hellos! Love the designs on the mirror itself.
Though you didnt win, i thought there was really a lot of effort done.
This epsiode really revolves ard LeeTeng which i find him quite annoying.
No offence though.

A big slap on yours & Mark’s back.
on November 27th, 2007 at 10:56 am
today someone made this comment in zaobao’s readers hotline:
《摆家乐》已经失去原有想要体现家具对环境气氛营造得节目意义,现在已成为DIY的比赛。
me thinks this viewer is right to a certain extent… these days some of the judges (not sure if all have been properly briefed on what is the judging criteria) seemed to be more impressed by DIY works, and just the DIY works alone, neglecting the overall feel of the living room, the transformation and whether the decor in accordance to theme, which are supposedly more important. looking back, we remember bryan started DIY when there were not enough budget to get certain items (like making the pair swing doors for the peranakan theme and mosaic tv console), or when certian fixtures in the house that didn’t suit the theme couldn’t be removed so DIY became a solution (like painting on a ceiling fan), or adding a little fun to the house yet not forgetting that the work still need to suit the theme (like a wired doggie cos it was dog’s year approaching) … but since season 2, judges were “spoilt” and they kept looking out for DIY stuffs and without them, they’d say there was no surprises (especially for bryan)… the poor hosts must be feeling pressurized since then, die die must come up with some DIY items…
but glad to say, bryan, u are never lacking in ideas for DIY and at the same time the things u created alwasys blend in with the overall decor, be it a painting, a decorative piece or a furniture, and have a professional touch. the mirror frame may look simple as its final product, but the design is something that won’t get outdated (classics is the theme ma) and me thinks it was really good workmanship too and gave the room an elegant look… too bad, maybe some judges like to look for “big” items, they want to look for the “wow”, but they forgot to see the picture as a whole, forgot about praticality and that in real life, we may not always want or need a “wow” in our home… that a cosy and comfortable living room (or say more “livable”) is more important… sure there are people who want “dramatic” decor in their houses, but then that’s a different taste, different class altogether…
so anyways, it’s really not important whether u win or lose anymore.. we have seen enough of how well and how professional ur work is, so let’s put it this way, u didn’t lost to ur opponent, u’ve only lost to the judges… maybe me or ur mummy or sis or all ur friends & fans think u are better also not important, more importantly is even viewers and strangers u’ve never met before thinks u are great… (the number of people who keep asking for contacts to engage ur professional service is a living proof!) we just love to see u give ur best and show us ur enthusiasm in id, and ur dedication to ur work/the programme, and the effort u put in to help ur contestant families create a nicer home… regardless of the result at the end of the day

big contrast in the before and after. Looks definitely like a cosy modern American home.
So what you’ve lost? Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. If I am the home owner, I don’t care, I will just buy whatever furnishings you’ve done!
Like the rest of your supporters, I love the decor style you’ve done. You never fail to amaze me. =)

But this show will never misss my eye as i love the way it was decorated in your blog even though i won;t understand whatever is being said when it is on TV.. I was wondering.. Whether or not ur this deco show, has done any re-decorations for malay family instead of chinese family only,.. As what i am what i am aware of.. My deco for my house totally sucks.. Courtesy of my loving parents.. see ya.. Thanks.. Regards Princess nia (Aini)

Hey Bryan,
Sad to hear that you have lost. Didn’t manage to catch the episode cause i was busy mugging away for exam. Such a pity!! From the pics, i really can see the HUGE HUGE HUGE transformation of the house. You really did a GREAT job. (*claps)
Maybe you can suggest to the production team to change the judging criteria? Im sure the overall feel of the house is so much better after the transformation. It looks like GREAT hotel room with all those lightings and furnitures. Kinda gives me a very relaxing feel!! WELL DONE for having to creat such piece of interior designing.
Anyway don’t say “we lost”. Change it to “we lost the competition” cause u didnt lose anything. I feel that u actually won over most of our hearts! HEY, JIAYOU BRYAN!!

i love your show, even though your design may not be my favouritee but the show will not be the same without you. i love Mark’s design and creativity but I respect your devotion. you know, in life, you may not get what you really deserve. there are many others who don’t. every time i feel frustrated or discouraged by work, i just have to look at the aunties/uncles who clean tables/drive buses/ clean toilets etc.. they do it with a smile, with joy. they are not any less human beings than us. they were once kids who have aspirations too. just happened that life did not deal them a great deck of cards. they still do their jobs with a smile. wheneven i think of this, i feel that i have no right to complain or even feel stressed. we each do our part. no one owes us a living. since this is where God has put us, we do our best so that we are a beacon of light to those around us.
you are one such light. continue with your good work. when you despair or feel like giving up, think of them.
sorry for rambling on and on, hope this helps you when you are feeling down.
on November 29th, 2007 at 9:14 am
Que Pasa, Amigo! Your blog is certainately nicer than Mark Lee’s like 100,000 times.
No, really. I ain’t kidding here, homeboy. You sure have a way with design, dont cha? Hope you win Mark Lee
Gracias, Amigos

Hi Bryan
Understand you had an interior design firm, my friend is looking for one, as i personally liked the decor you had created for those ppl. Can i have yr co. name/address/website to pass it to my friend and personal reference too.
By the way, jiayou in whatever yo do …. ….
on November 30th, 2007 at 2:15 pm
Bryan,
i personally think that in this episode, you really put in lots of effort in making this house so pretty. But you lost. Here are some reasons i think why.
The furniture- lee’s furniture has really unique details, like some flower & butterfly here and there.
Especially the dining table, it really rocks, compared to yours.
No, i’m not saying you’re bad or what, but lee’s design this time had overthrown you.
In my opinion, i seriously think that the mirror, the one you d.i.y, is not very pretty.
In fact, i think the colors of the mirror doesn’t blend the wall . If you had removed that mirror and placed a kind of art piece, hand drawn, you might have get a higher chance of winning.
I agree that the feel is comfy and looks like a hotel, but too much dim lights makes us sleepy. Well, these are my 2 cents worth of points you should take note.
Way to go bryan!
Added: i think you’re the cutest actors around here ^_^

Hi Bryan,
This is the first time i have actually login to a Blog to see see .. ha ha ha ha surprise but it’s true… I was browsing and saw the house decor that you’ve done for each house and it was really very nice and beautiful … you’ve your own unique style. Keep it up Man =)
I’ve a small favour from you …but i don’t think you be free also ..ha ha ha just wana get some opinion from you and see what i can do to my new house whch i bought it this year .. I browse alot of magazines, went to furniture malls..look at the furniture but i just don’t know what else i can decor my house….
just maybe some simple things to make the house nicer to display?i also not sure ..can’t buy too expensive too cause spend alot of $$ on the furniture and etc ..Having a house is really not easy hor..
If it’s possible, can you reply to my email (san_1607@yahoo.com.sg)?And i will send you the pictures?I really hope you can reply me but if you are too busy,i can understand also..No worries =)

omgg. i love this show. quite interesting seeing the pictures of the flat.. different perspective from what the audience see on tv i guess.
personally like the mirror you made a lot.
very vintage.. and the whole house has this very cosy and classy feel to it.. the space allocation is oso much better than the previous layout..
good luck in your upcoming episodes!
