Home Decor 3 Exotic Asia
This week, our second last episode, we are dealt with a tropical theme again..However, on second thoughts, not exactly tropical as some of the asian countries are blessed with winters… Generally, when we think of asia, we tend to think more of our close countries, if not then it would be like bangkok, hong kong, korea….somehow, we felt that India is really exotic and a fusion of China and India might just bring out the exotic nature of today’s theme. This week both teams got a four room corridor unit and they are just a block apart..My contestant is a really strong lady with a very good friend, who happened to be her neighbour as well.It touched me to know that the person who auditioned for this show was actually her eldest daughter, who passed away late last year.Putting her sorrow aside, this mother went ahead to participate in our show just to complete her daughter’s dream. This made us really wanting to put our best leg forward and if possible, to win this round. Not for glory, but to celebrate a mother’s love…
The original condition of the flat is pretty okay i guess, rather pale white walls and slightly cluttered.. lots of room for improvement..
Transformation began and eventually, it looked like this..
Thought that a drawing of this indian lady will add a touch of india to the tv sideboard i made..
Did a diy enhancement to the sliding doors to the kitchen by using a base board covered with wood slices trimmings which was varnished after mounted onto the board with glue.
Simply adored this rectangle dinning table in clean simple chinese design with great tuckshop like long benches. Matched with two intricate metal crafted chair from India. Just loved this combi!
The choice of furnitures and colours in this episode seemed to take everyone by surprise. We were very much pleased by the transformation and we marvel at the fact that we were able to change the colour of the wall in a mere 20 mins time frame. This taught us something, whenever there is a will, there is a way.
We were very much inspired by the two ladies Doris and hua jie..
Thank you for letting us learn….

I want to send a gift to you
could you tell me you the address?

Hi Bryan
Congrats you & Doris family for winning tonite’s theme Exotic Asia!
The furniture were rather simple but a combination blend especially with the exclusive two intricate metal crafted chair from India (I must go get one) + the china wooden windows between the mirror on a yellow wall, with the table with black runner & silver display and with a slimmed corner table with potted plant really brings out the china – India fusion of an exotic dining area. The tall China chair enhanced those wall paintings corner.
However, I was a little hesitant hoping you will not repaint the yellow wall to brown! The yellow really enhanced the stainless sliver ornament on the wall and made the whole house really look exotic!! But well maybe had to tone down the wall, as the diy TV sideboards were white. Still I think it will look great with a yellow wall, perhaps a black sofa instead will contrast the silver and the bright yellow wall. Yellow, silver + black… wow I like the combination exotic, mysterious with a touch of elegant.
What a lovely house now and I can imagine myself spending more time at the dining corner enjoying the ambience with a glass of merlot and a touch of music!
And to Doris, continue to be strong. During this grieving time, you have managed to fulfill your daughter’s wish and actually participate in this show, you have already succeeded to overcome sadness and turned them into happy memories that will forever linger in your heart.
Let’s start 2008 with new hopes, new resolutions and shower your love for those who are waiting for you to care & concern for them!
All the best…

hi bryan,
feel sad when she mention her eldest daughter had passed away, touching though! she’s a very strong lady.
well done! you’ve won again. keep it up and hope you’ll win again on the next episode. looking forward ya… cheerio
on January 23rd, 2008 at 11:28 am
will there be a series 4?
if there is, i really think the disciples should take up a more active role. for instance, they make most of the decisions and the teachers (bryan and mark) are present only to mentor them. and, for the last few episodes, the disciples will be totally left to themselves. so, both mentors will not be present in any stage of the home decors.
even though this format of production will not receive such high viewerships as with disciples, it can however, prove and show how good the mentors are through their disciples.

Hi Bryan,
Searching high and low for an email link to you in this blog. *sigh* none.
Anyway, caught u today in IMM Giant doing the sheng xiong show. Saw u walking to Crystal Jade for lunch with crew. Me and boy wave to you while you waiting at the restuarant entrance. My boy likes you and calls you “bai3 jia1 le4″ uncle and am asking where is the other with the spectacle.
Just wanna say you take really nice fotos (I’ve quickly glance through the ones you took in Oz with Chan brothers tour), and really envy you had such talents in arts.
All the best in whatever you do. And if you do read this comment, send regards to Yifeng too, and tell her my boy calls her the “zu3 fan4″ auntie as she is known to him as the host in the superstar cook show with Sam Leong.
bye for now.
