Home Decor 3 Modern Opulence
First and foremost, would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and may the magic of christmas take away your sorrows, if not, lessen the pain, and may love warms your heart and serves as a balm to wounded souls…
For this episode, we have to create modern opulence. Opulence =lavish high living. This episode must be the very first one that i got that completely baffles me..not the topic bu the layout of the flat that we were assigned. On the left hand side of the living room there is a kind of a steps shape and the right hand side wall is actually a slanting wall that stretches all the way to the windows. And miraculously, right in the middle of the slanting wall, a small squarish window that you will find normally in store rooms or bedroom..
We were rather stressed by this layout ..however, we forged ahead and did what we could do possibly.
On D day, lee teng arrived with a fresh haircut..the one that i had persuaded him to have and my oh my, he looked real good wor..
with such a happy start, the day should have gone real well until we found out that the paint job was really bad! After much scoldings, we finally began to work ..
our dear cameraman in the spirit of christmas!
Me thought that it would be really opulent if we have one of the most reknowned painting hanging on the wall and so, i drewed Monalisa to create the opulent feel..
Almost near the entrance we have this mirror cum key hanger thingy on the wall ..
We relocated the dinning room to create this romantic corner for the couple..
Eventually, when alls been done, we were rather pleased with what we have done.Even though we lost, we were really happy with what we have done when faced with such a challenge. Its been a really tiring day…

Hi Bryan,
the decor looks classy! The christmas tree has added that perfect festive touch!!
Cooool!!!! I like that!
每个星期要拍摄"摆家乐",辛苦你们了!
尤其是你,一个星期要开工8天,是吗?小心健康哦。(U mentioned about that in your online Ch 8 interviews)
Btw, I was there at Sembawang Sun Plaza yesterday. I was aware that you were there to host a talent show. Hehe..I was standing somewhere near you.
Actually I would like to say hello to you but decided to drop the idea, because I don’t want to distract you from judging those contestants. LOL. As I had something on later in the evening, I left sometime before you finished hosting (or judging).
Anyway…never mind, last but not least, merry christmas! =)

Hi Hi, Nice design! A little comment for you. Think this time round a little lost at the part where your design colour is a little dark. Christmas is more closer to white colour = Snow = White Christmas!
So mayb can give u some little tips for you to take note for next time. Jiayou!!!

wish you have a merry christmas… just watched finished the show and I quickly log on internet to see yr blog.. Frankly speaking I really likes yr design this time but found it a bit on the dark side. While Mark’s is too white…
After watching so many episodes of Home Decor (from series 1-3) I like to give u some of my personal opinions.. Some people might feel offended by what I said but these are just my own view..
In this series 3, personally I felt that yr designs/styles are too lavish as compared to the past 2 series. For peoples whom appreciated such lavish style or looking forward to such lavish living, they will naturally likes your designs (and most people whom stays in HDB flat will looks forward to such lavish style as we have either been staying with our parents or our own home decor are too bland). However for others who don’t appreciated it, you’ll naturally loses all the votes.
I’m very sorry if you don’t like to heard such negative feedbacks but I hope you know I’m just highlighting what I felt it’s one of yr failure point in this serie.

chanced upon your webiste. am thi is my first time leaving a message on your blog. have watched the episode earlier. the flat layout is really really really odd…. will be nice if those odd corners can be convered into a study corner/room or watver. the group was lucky. theirs look like an exec flat with a really long living hall. if i m nt wrong, their masterroom should be rather odd shape too.
oh btw, i still prefer your decor over the other group. nt sure what happens to their pingpong xmas treel. looks kinda childish to me. as usual, your DIY stands out from the rest., glad that you pull out the candles at the last min.. it was a good piece of artwork but rather unsuitable for the theme.
regards. and merry christmas to all.

Hi Bryan,
We truly think you should win! We like your taste in the decor/design in every episode.
Maybe, they should let viewers to SMS whom they think should be the winner instead of getting the judges to decide. This should be much fairer.
Keep up the good work.

Hi,
It’s a good job done, but Mark improved a lot too. Try harder next time.
Glad to see that Lee Teng & Rong Ming improved a lot under both you and Mark’s training.
Was wondering whether the furniture shops really able to give so much discount for you guys? What did they benefit out of this? They lost half their sale every week ah…was quite puzzled over this. Please clear my doubt…
Merry Christmas….

Hi there! I watched yesterday’s episode and seriously I was really disappointed you lost >.
on December 25th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
Hi there! I watched yesterday’s episode and seriously I was really disappointed you lost.
Sometimes I seriously doubt the judges tastes. I mean well, they are the professionals ain’t they? So aren’t judges supposed to be more creative and more open to alternative designs and all?
From what I have seen so far, they seem to be really conservative and traditional in their designing tastes. Except for Chen Han Wei. He’s one open to creative and impressive designing.
But well, to each his own I guess.
I think both of your designs are nice, Mark and yours. But personally, your design won in my eyes.
I’m not an artistic person and neither have i taken designing courses so here’s just my 2 cents worth, purely based on feel.
I like the colors you used for your walls. Mark’s was all white but you chose to use dark colors. Which i feel, is fresh in the theme of Modern Opulence. The effect brought out was something classy, yet a bit mysterious and relaxing. Well, I wouldn’t wanna put on sunglasses all the time to stay in the other house. *lol*
To add on, your Mona Lisa painting. Thats was one word: Awesome. It hit me just like your Nirvana painting. Totally impressive.
All in all, your design was creative and the winner. You take a lot of notice to details and is meticulous in your designing. And that is worth mentioning.
Like what my best friend always says when we are discussing about both of your design: Mark’s design always give people a HDB feel, whereas for yours, it gives a 5-star Hotel feel.
Your designs make us wanna immediately pack up our luggage and move in there to enjoy the out of Singapore feel.
So Bryan, please don’t be discourage. You know you ARE the winner. ^^
Who cares about the judges? Audiences have eyes and judgement too you know?
on December 25th, 2007 at 2:51 pm
Great designs again!
Anyway, Merry Christmas to you! =)) May all your wishes come true.
on December 25th, 2007 at 3:41 pm
bryan, really love this! first look i couldnt help thinking about vampires and draculas. it’s the luxury and darkness of it all..hmm i think dimmed lights, more crimson and an actual fireplace would really make it seem like a set out of some vampire themed movie. haha.
I would love to see that some day u’ll stray away from doing portraits on the wall and showcase your painting/drawing talent on worn down furniture or something that’s nt your usual.
Anyhow, im always WOWed by your ideas and enthusiasm! Keep up the good work!
on December 25th, 2007 at 3:50 pm

Hi bryan,
I watched this espiode while celebrating Christmas Eve at my friend’s hse..All my friends also agree that we like your designer. Mark’s design was too white and clean..Whereas yours gave us a feeling of coolness…haha…never mind, u must fail before you can achieve better results….good luck…laugh more often, we like your laughter..haha…anyway, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

Mark’s design actually dun have to spend 6000 bucks for furniture & stuff. Can just get some white cloth to cover up their old furniture coz they want the WHOLE house to be WHITE.
Please save the EArTH!!!
Merry Christmas & Happy Boxing DAY!

dear all,
having appealed to ur votes and support for bryan before the SA, me shouldn’t forget to thank u all for helping bryan achieved what he deserved. without every bit of support from each of u, friends alone wouldn’t be able to do that..
2007 has been a year of ups and downs for bryan, even until this very final month when it should suppose to be filled with nothing but happy festive mood. bryan has been working very hard all this while, no less this year, and friends have seen him challenging probably his most hectic work schedule with not even a single off day in one whole month.. so deprived of rest time (let alone time to spend with his family and loved ones) that sometimes we wonder if he is really enjoying this kind of life… but still, we believe as long as he is still in this line, he will give his all to fulfill his responsibilities as an artistes, and work very hard to bring happiness to all fans, viewers, audience… just like how he has always given all he can to shower people around him with laughters, love and care…
let’s hope 2008 will be a rewarding and better year for bryan..
may u
attain greater achievements,
expect more happy surprises,
meet more good people,
enjoy better health,
relax with more holidays,
stay away from all troubles and worries..
and truly enjoy life..
and here’s wishing everyone a happy new year filled with love, peace and joy too

I really love your : “Bai Jia Le” show very much. I love your creative ideas & your art works. I had read one of the comments & I totally agreed. I hope you guys can publish a book of all the decors that you & Mark Lee have created for the fans of this show. And btw heard fr friends that you have a company for home decor, is it true? If so, can let me know the place or contact no.? ANd do you do home designing for ppl?
on December 28th, 2007 at 1:39 am
Hi Bryan
Merry Christmas to you and everyone in this forum. My family loves watching you in any show. Winning or losing is not that important but the process of having the joy of doing it is a kind of satisfaction. You never fail to thrill us with your ideas and DIY.
Wishing you and everyone a Prosperous New Year 2008!
Cheers!
on December 29th, 2007 at 6:43 pm
Hi Bryan
I’ve studied design before and I seriously think your design is better than Mark’s. I’m very very disappointed and shocked with the result.
Although it’s christmas, Mark’s design is too white and bland for the theme of Modern Opulance. The whole design looks ordinary compared to yours. Mark’s nicest touch is his DIY wall decor using the 枯树枝 but it looks more christmas and country than Modern Opulance! Your design is more classy, gothic and glam which suits the theme. And the theme is Modern Opulance not Christmas, right? And I’m totally impressed by your modern version of Mona Lisa, still mysterious and yet cheeky! The furniture you’ve chosen is also more stylish while Mark’s choice is really quite ordinary.
So I really question the judges’ credibility and professionalism. I feel it’s very unfair to the designer and the participants. This really makes me lose confidence in watching the show.
I’m not advocating this to the participants but I’m just wondering whether the participants who’ve lost are allowed to just pay for the furniture in order to keep them?
Happy New Year!
Cheers

Hi bryan
How r u????
on June 8th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
i really love your design for this theme. in fact, your works inspired me to adopt this theme for my next new place!
the onli thing that i din quite like is the goat horn thingy which made the overall look & feel a little too dark & oppressive…
other than that, it’s really great esp the furniture you chose, very anna sui~ i like
really depicted the glam factor very well!
seriously, go u design for people? i need a gd designer for this theme
