Time flies…

Not only are we into year 2010 but it is now already the 9th episode of home decor 4..3 more to go and the end of this season is drawing close..

This episode we dwelt with the topic of Pacific Homes..and after much research we concluded that lots of places are linked to the Pacific Ocean and thus, we decided on the Iconic Hawaii, which is nestled in the heart of the Pacific and known to the whole entire world, to be the best representation of Pacific homes:)

My contestant for this episode is the effervescent Lynn and her handsome hubby Dave, together with their lot of lovely friends who came to helped out, i must say, that this is the episode that i really had fun! With the hawaii theme in mind, we set to recreate this modern simple decor 4 room flat into a home that exudes the charm and sunny disposition of a Pacific home:)

IMG_2600.JPG

IMG_2601.JPG

IMG_2602.JPG

I did a direct translation of bringing the ocean into the living room simply by using this fantabulously pretty shade of tiffany blue and even though i am not a fan of blue, this colour really gave off this wonderfully pacific vibes that calms all mind:)Also, the vibrance of life of the Pacific Ocean is directly translated into the colourful arrays of decor items and also, nature represented by the canes and raw wood console and wooven rug…

IMG_2614.JPG

Set in a tropical climate, the pacific ocean region is bustling with life! birds and flowers are in abundance and that’s why, nestled in the corner, a flower arrangement of flowers found in that region..also places at some corners, intricately carved colourful birds found in the pacific region:)

IMG_2617.JPG

After much research, i found that the native fruit of the Pacific is actually pineapple, which i directly translated it into this wonderful lamp that i found(in the shape of pineapple:)) and also the rug that we chosen and i also found a frog which thrives only in the pacific region and thus, it became my inspiration for my art piece, which is going to be the first time i am going to draw on a canvass using acrilyic paint instead of my usual wooden planks and emulsion paints:)

IMG_2628.JPG

To adorn the walls of the dining area, what do people most do on the Pacific Ocean ???? Surfing! and a mirror surfboard is thus created:)

IMG_2624.JPG

Fruits are one of the staples of the pacific and thus, we set up this fruit platter and cocktails to actually feel the way of life in a pacific home:)

IMG_2634.JPG

BEFORE                                                               AFTER

IMG_2601.JPG IMG_2614.JPG

In the end, Somehow or rather, the judges felt that we went off the topic..We might not have stuck a printed picture of the ocean on the wall, but choosing Hawaii, an iconic part of the pacific ocean, as an inspiration  was clearly not a mistake and actually letting people experience the feel of living in a pacific home on top of the decor should be an integral part of decor. The decor should encompass life.

Dave, though the end result might not be the birthday present you so hoped to receive, nevertheless, me thinks u are already blessed with a wonderful wife and beautiful friends.

so here’s to you from a new friend,

Happy birthday and aloooooooooha!

    Dear Bryan,

Dun be despair that u didnt win tis espisode, u really put in hard work & the painting is marvelous, the furniture u choose and the surf boat mirror is perfect, mark won cos of that big poster on the wall, but that seems professionally done, how can it be consider DIY when urs is hand painted and theirs printed :( nevertheless u are the Best Home decor Master in my heart :) Looking forward to the next ep..

    Hi Bryan,

When watching the show, our family was dismay by the result. We had tot that u be the winner, as mark team doesnt seem to be very special, especially the tv console doesnt seem to match the theme. U had indeed build a warmth and cozy pacific home.

heys, i caught the episode of home decor 4 just now. Personally felt that the only reason why mark won was because of the printed picture (which wasnt even his idea non hand-made), so it was quite unfair. anway, u did a really great job with the colours:) cheers and jia you!^^ cant wait to see the next episode!

    Hey d@p, i totally agree with u!

I do not want to, don’t even need to compare which team is better, but i just want to point out that the other team clearly DID NOT DIY those things that they claim to be! Obviously the huge printed photos are NOT DIY, i am totally surprised that the so-called professional judges couldn’t even tell this! Even if you have a friend who can print out those photos for you FOC, it is still not called DIY, mind you!

And the mirror on the wall, clearly it was delivered to the house as it is with the frame and mirror in the right shape and size, and they only need to be fixed onto the wall! Is that called DIY?

And the dining/bar table, it’s really unbelievable that the owner “just happened” to have a “friend” who can “lend” him a “brand new” table that fits so well! And the so-called “friends”, they really just looked like professional installers and delivery guys to me lor, what a joke!!!

    Bryan,

To me,your friendship is more valueable than any prize this world got to offer. There is no amount of money that can buy the Joy and Fun all of us had that day=D if given a chance to do this all over again,i wouldn’t want to change a single thing.Bryan, you will still be our Choice=) You are a inspiration, your Passion and hardwork makes everyone wants watch Home Deco week after week…

    Keep Shinning my friend =)

    Hi Bryan

I really love your design especially the pineapple. You should be the winner for this epsoide as everything that you did for the house are D.I M.The poster that Mark used is extracted from DNA wallpapers, it is not D.I.M at all. The judges should be able to differentiate whether the poster is D.I.Y. Feel sad that you did not win this round.

    Jia You!!

    Hi Bryan,

Actually i alrdy guessed tat mark will win this time cos of the ocean picture but frankly speaking if compare w the furntures i will choose urs. i dun like mark’s furntures at all so if i m one of the judge i will choose u. Sometimes i was wondering whether why they can win? But in my mind u r always the winner. JIAYOU!!!!! :)

“Went off the topic”? haha… I will do so because I have just seen the Star Awards 2010 nominee list. Soooooooooooo happy to see you are nomineed as the best info-ed programme host. Besides, “destination most wanted ” are also nomineed as the best variety programme!! Hope you can get the prize! I want to say you are so special because you prefer to disappear on TV to do something you like, not caring too much whether you are still rememberd. I really appreciate that!
Unfortunately, I am a girl from China, Northeast of China. So, you know, i can’t watch the Star Awards televisioned live…. I have to wait to watch it online…
    Anyway, best wishes!

I think your design looks really great and i cannot imagine Blue would look so good…. Tiffany Blue it is. :) And the owners sure felt happy to kept all the DIY which you have made for their home as they are pricless. :)

Keep it up and look forward to see

    Bryan,
All my friends felt that your design is much better and you are so creative and talented. Never fail to impress the viewers with your masterpiece week after week. That’s why after the announcement of the results on that day, i told Dave & Lynn that your “pineapple-frog” acrylic painting itself is already the best gift they received. It’s the one and only that money can’t buy. I put that picture as my wall paper for my handphone after the firming. Cheers and all the best to you. Happy belated birthday once again! It’s a pleasure knowing you.

A pic showing a sandy beach and blue sea represent the Pacific??? Boo !!! Did the judges even bother to carry out any research. They have taken a very narrow definition.

Agree totally with myfanwy’s comments about lack of personal contribution on DIY by Mark’s team.

Again congratulations for another piece of art well done! It fits the theme so well. Not sure why all the judges chose Mark design (his not bad with the poster that caught the marks) but surely I look we all can tell who is the winner, you! Well, we thought was kelong as I anticipated this week they had to let Mark Lee win since he has lost a couple of weeks.

Also I have something to point out, the media should not allow contestants to say who they prefered becos obviously Mark is at the losing end. I think in terms of motivation or real challenge, participants should not be so open who they prefered. Before the show starts, Mark side is always at the losing end. Home contestants should live with who they have chosen. How would you like if the artist choses the contestant vice versa??? Any thoughts??

Now back to the point why select Mark Lee to host his show with you. We all know he is no good on this so is not fair a challenge and can be boring, there is no challenge here. They should get someone like HAN WEI, so at least contestant have a real contest.

I am sure you will agree it will be challenging for you too to have a equal creative person to motivate your works!

Sorry for my comments but I still and always thinks you are the best but watching the show carry on like this, I felt it has no value in terms of the word “contest”.

One last suggestion, for the loser instead of taking away their furniture maybe they can allow them to decide if to keep the furnitures and pay a special discounted price for them. This way losers can maintain their new decor home (if they can afford or want to). Well this may not work but just a thought so winner is happy and loser is not that sad afterall the hardwork.

obviously bryan without doubt is a better designer than mark, one is a professional the other is someone with absolutely no such experience. i do really like bryan’s designs very much but having to watch almost every episode of bryan winning really makes this show quite meaningless, no competion no surprise, why compete. and sometimes i really feel sorry for mark to have to do such a prog which deflates his confidence every episode. hope mediacorp can find someone of the same professional calibre as bryan to host this prog, if not why continue with this show.

  26. Serene said,

I totally agree Jen n Kiki ‘s comments, they shd get Han Wei or someone else to replace Mark cos i think Mark really cannot make it la but anyway i still enjoying watching this show cos of Bryan Wong.

actually I always hv this question in my mind.. Can’t the contestant who lose buys over the furniture at the same price that you all brought from the store? At least end of the day, even if they lose the contest but they still hv the option to buy the furniture and not waste their effort throughout the whole program (especially at times whereby the contestants hv to go and purchased some DIY items or accessories themselves. )

I’ve seen the today’s MyPaper news of you being nominated as one of the Best Info-Ed Host category. Thought that it will be nice if you’re nominated in Destination Most Wanted for the Best Variety Show. Being nominated is really one good news, let’s just wait for the result.

    Congrats and all the best.

    In the meantime, just RELAX!

    Hi Bryan!

The pineapple and the surf boards remind me of Spongebob immediately!
Nonetheless, it looks like a resort :)

BTW, is it possible to get the editors now to include the finished looks in the trailers? I just saw the one for next week and seeing the completed room spoiled it for me. I think it was mentioned too during the first/ second season.

Did you read Lian He Zao Bao – 4 Feb 2010? Someone commented that Bai Jia Ler should not be continued because you are obviously the clear winner of most epi…

In fact, I hope you can host a similiar Bai Jia Ler but instead of competition, they allow you to let your imagination run…

To let Mark win when he does not deserve to, is not only unfair to you but also to the participants as well (since the participants put in a lot of work, time and efforts too). Luckily for them, your decor and DIM products are always very special and pleasing. We all understand what was happening when you lost the competition last week. However, I am very impressed with your attitude. As long as you did your best,we all know who is the winner. What is on the surface is not important. Wonder why make it a competition? I’m sure most of us are really only looking forward to your decor.

    Bryan
The pineapple and frog drawing is so cute and also the pineapple lampshade. The blue paint on the wall – it makes the living room so cool.
Can see that you, the couple and their friends were enjoying. It could be fun if you have draw the loving couple dressed up in Hawaii attire doing the Hawaii dance. Haha
In the last episode,, the judge mentioned your smiling face drawing is unoriginal. Then what about Mark’s big beach “photo”? It was copied and then printed out by his “friend” from “wherever”. So it should be consider as unoriginal and yet all the 3 judges pick the photo as the winning point for this episode. So very funny.
Looking forward to see the Chinese New Year episode but also hoping that it will not come so soon – that will bring the end of the HD4 which I will definitely missed.

    Hi All,

I just want to share my point of views but I have no hard feelings. -)

Let this show be what it should be lor. I admire Bryan and I am not a fan of Mark. But I think we should not ‘despise’ Mark (Sorry if this word is too strong). At least be fair to him. He is afterall not so bad lor.

If Bryan is in the position of Mark. Will you comment about Bryan the same way as you comment about Mark? Think about it.

This is just a show. -) Everywhere is competition, not only in HoMe DeCor. We should enjoy as what it is. ^^
